The hand-blowing glass cooperative TerraKlay works with in Xela, Guatemala, was founded back in 1976 with a clear goal: to create jobs that offer a living wage, health insurance, and support for local families. The artisans, driven by this shared vision, took it upon themselves to secure a small loan to purchase land and build their kiln and workspace. Now, over four decades later, the cooperative—made up of 40 artisans—continues to transform recycled glass into beautiful, handcrafted glassware. They remain committed to their mission of creating a sustainable livelihood, free from exploitation, while protecting the environment and fostering community development.
